Mastering the Art of Hands on Assists and Adjustments

This training has been postponed until 2024 - new date coming soon

At The Granary Yoga Studio - MK43 0YD - one mile from Junction 13 of M1

Learning the art of giving a ‘hands on’ assist or adjust is an important journey as a yoga teacher and should not be underestimated, therefore the intention of this weekend intensive CPD workshop, is to offer you the expertise and confidence required. You will learn techniques that skilfully and sensitively exchange energy to your students via touch, and also how to intuitively listen with your hands, so that they become clear and compassionate communicators.

As yoga teachers we can utilise a variety of methods available to guide our students into a more expansive and joyful experience of yoga, assisting a student can be a powerful and integral part of helping them deepen their yoga practice. From our own presence and energy, to verbal instructions, to demonstrating a pose, and then there is the hands-on approach which is referred to as an ‘assist’ or an adjustment. This can be a powerful tool for yoga teachers when used with skill and sensitivity.

Over the course of the weekend, you will develop a deeper understanding of the ‘energetics’ of touch and how to intuitively listen with your hands, ultimately tuning in to your students, so that they too, learn how to become more aware and connected with their body, thus evolving their practice in a more natural way.

As we delve deeper into the weekend, you will gain greater understanding of; an ‘Energetic Assist’, a ‘Hands on Assist’, and how to decide when a deeper ‘Hands on Adjustment’ may be necessary. You can expect to gain the confidence and knowledge required that can retrain certain patterns of being within the human body thus facilitating the release of stagnant energy and optimizing complete vitality for your students.

Participants will be encouraged to inquire and to develop the ability to observe as well as perceive the language of energy and movement, which will help them to discern when assists or when adjustments might be most appropriate and beneficial. For example, we will look to see where free movement in an asana already exists and an adjustment may not be required, but instead the movement of energy via an assist, but also when there is disruption or a block in energetic flow or misalignment that may be better shifted through an adjustment.

The majority of practitioners come to the mat for the undisputed therapeutic benefits yoga offers. If they are in the hands of a skilled teacher, these benefits will often be greatly enhanced. A good assist can help a student safely access a deeper posture, set good alignment and explore energetic movement and intention. It may also release deep physical restrictions, as well as emotional blockages in a safe environment.

This course is designed to give you as a teacher, confidence in how to work ‘hands-on’ with bodies, giving the gift of fine-tuning or refining the student’s personal experience of the pose in order the deepen the expression.

A proficient assist can be a transmission of knowledge, energy and healing that is extremely profound.
