5 Self-Care Steps to Wellbeing

The way we manage our everyday life, is connected to our physical health and mental well-being. However deciding to live healthily needs powerful intention.

Eat Healthily

Food is medicine and I believe everyone should experience how great they can feel when they eat the right foods. Before, I changed my diet couple of years ago, I was bloated, lacking in energy and had completely given in to the menopause, arthritis and my age.

Exercise regularly

Regular exercise will boost your mood, as well as improve strength and endurance because it fundamentally changes your brain. Moving your body delivers oxygen and nutrients to your tissues enabling every bodily system to work more efficiently. I book an appointment with myself to exercise at least 3 times a week, and because I eat an anti inflammatory diet now, my joints no longer hurt and I’m the fittest I’ve been in a long while.

Yoga and meditation

Regular yoga/ breath work and meditation offers flexibility, muscle tone, body awareness, relieves stress and develops mental clarity. In 20 years of teaching, I’ve helped literally hundreds of clients positively turn their life around through these ancient practices.

Hobbies and socialising

Having a hobby is an enjoyable pastime and will improve your mental health. I sing in a rock choir which is something I’d always wanted to do but never had time, I literally feel so positive and happy afterwards.

Socialising is also important, friendships are support and can really lift your spirits. Research shows that adults who regularly socialise outside of work, are less likely to experience symptoms of depression, anxiety, or stress.

Sleep Well

For optimal health, we all know that we should make sleep a top priority. Lack of sleep is linked to reduced immune system function, hormone imbalances, depression, weight gain, poor focus as well as lack of energy. For me, prioritising, regular exercise and changing my diet were a game changer as far as the quality of my sleep was concerned. If your gut microbiome is balanced, your mind is calm and your body is tired, it’s a no brainier, you will sleep well.
